PCHS wrestlers shine at Douglas JV Tournament

Four Pershing County High School wrestlers came home tired and sore from the Douglas JV tournament this past weekend.

Logan Hunt, Jeff Elerick, Tavis Lawrence and Wyatt Hughes all gained valuable experience.

“The meet aimed at getting younger kids more mat time. It focused on development on the mat rather than in neutral,” coach Mike Brooks said.

Freshman Jeffrey Elerick at 138 pounds went undefeated. Sophomore Wyatt Hughes (157) dropped a close championship match but wrestled well.

Freshman Logan Hunt (285) and senior Tavis Lawrence (138) each notched victories in their first-ever competitions.

“The coaching staff is happy with Logan’s performance. He showed some good signs,” Brooks said. “We were happy to see how Tavis competed too.”

This weekend, the wrestling team heads to the Winnemucca Events Center for the Cody Louk Invitational.

Some will also wrestle at the McQueen JV tournament on Saturday.

Wrestling fans should mark their calendars for the Lovelock Mustang Invitational on Saturday, Dec. 17.
