No significant developments for aquatics center

The Winnemucca City Council met for their regular meeting on Aug. 23 and with all members present:

• A bid was awarded to Hunewill Construction by the Council for a contract for a 2022 Hargrave Lane water, sewer, curb, gutter, sidewalk and paving improvement project. According to city officials, Hunewill was the only bid for the project and came in slightly under estimates from engineers. The water and sewer aspects of the project are set to begin as soon as possible, with the remaining portions to follow and with a completion goal of 60 days.

• The Council approved an ordinance adoption for a zone change at a public hearing. The zone change is for a parcel on Railroad Street, to change it from a single-family residential lot with a 6,000 square-foot minimum, to a multi-family residential lot.

• A request to update fees imposed for various services and uses at the City cemetery was approved by the Council at a public hearing. According to City officials, the fees are already imposed, but an ordinance adoption is necessary to align the fees and the current ordinance.

• City Manager, Alicia Heiser, presented an update to the Council regarding the application of the American Rescue Plan Act funds. According to Heiser, there are no current updates on existing projects utilizing the funds and other potential projects have surfaced, but are not under official consideration.

• There were no significant updates in regards to a new aquatics center to replace the Bode Howard Memorial Pool.

• The Council heard public comment from concerned citizen, Judy Quilici, in regards to eroding sidewalks by the Bode Howard Memorial Swimming Pool.

• Minutes from the Aug. 9 meeting were approved by the Council.

• Warrants and expenses for the City of Winnemucca were approved.

• No proclamations or awards were presented.
