The McDermitt High School volleyball team made its season debut on Thursday, Aug. 26, with a road trip to Pyramid Lake.
The Laker knocked off the Lady Bulldogs in three sets, 25-19, 25-10 and 25-17.
Pyramid Lake scored five of the first six points in the first set, only to see McDermitt come back and take a 9-7 advantage. In a set of momentum changes, the Lasers reclaimed the lead at 12-9 with a 5-0 run and did not trail again.
McDermitt tied the set at 16, but Pyramid Lake went on a 7-1 run to lead 23-17 and closed the set out at 25-19.
The Lakers used four consecutive aces in the second set to lead 7-3. McDermitt kept the deficit at four points at 14-10, however, Pyramid Lake scored the final 11 points of the set to claim a 2-0 lead in the match.
Pyramid Lake grabbed an early 9-3 lead in the third set, only to see McDermitt rally to tie the set at 12 and force the Lakers to call a timeout. The set went back-and-forth, until Pyramid Lake closed out the match on an 8-1 run.
McDermitt opens Eastern1A play on Friday, Sept. 16, with a road trip to Owyhee. McDermitt hosts Eureka on Friday, Sept. 17.
