In June of 2022, the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office began an ongoing investigation following a report of both a residential and commercial burglary. During this investigation the suspects were preliminarily identified as Jesse Michael Simpson, 39 years of age and Katy Janelle Ross, 39 years of age.
On August 9th, 2022, the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a burglary at 55 Trucking LLC. During this burglary, multiple fuel credit cards were stolen and shortly after, the stolen fuel cards were used to obtain fuel at two separate locations in Humboldt County. Video surveillance was obtained of the fraudulent fuel purchases and the suspect vehicle was identified, as well as a vehicle belonging to Katy Ross being involved in the fraudulent purchases. The total of the fraudulently obtained fuel is approximately 2,500 gallons with a value of $12,875.00.
On August 10th, 2022 at about 8:20p.m., Deputies made contact with Katy Ross at in regards to the ongoing investigation. The following contact led to the arrest of Ross for a violation of N.R.S. 453.336; Possession of a Schedule I/II Controlled Substance. Following her arrest, a search warrant was obtained for Ross’ vehicle, during which approximately twenty-five additional credit/debit cards, fuel cards, medical cards, financial paperwork, registrations, titles, DMV paperwork, checkbooks, etc. in other persons names. Multiple passports, tax information, passwords, date of births, social security information, etc. for various persons and specific persons, some of whom have been recent victims of burglaries, thefts and grand larceny.
In addition to the evidence of property and fraud crimes, deputies also located numerous items of drug paraphernalia and multiple different size baggies and containers containing suspected methamphetamine and an AR-15 rifle.
On August 10, 2022 deputies made contact with Jesse Simpson in regards to the ongoing investigation. During this contact with Simpson, stolen credit cards were recovered, and Simpson was placed under arrest.
Based on additional information obtained during this investigation, and on August 11th a search warrant was obtained for a residence at 9300 Alice Lane. During the service of the search warrant, deputies recovered a stolen vehicle used to facilitate the fraudulent fuel purchases and a trailer with five tanks totaling approximately 2,500 gallons of stolen fuel. During the service of the search warrant, Cory Hokanson an accomplice of Simpson and Ross was located and arrested. Two additional arrests were made at the property for unrelated crimes.
As a result of the investigation conducted by the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office, the following subjects were booked into the Humboldt County Detention Center for the following violations:
Katy Janelle Ross was booked on charges of NRS 205.463; Obtaining the Personal Identifying Information of Another, NRS 205.690; Possession of a Credit/Debit Card without Cardholders Consent, NRS 453.337; Possession of Schedule I/II Controlled Substance for Sales Second Offense, NRS. 453.566; Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, NRS 202.360; Possession of a Firearm by a Prohibited Person, NRS 199.480; Conspiracy to Commit a Crime and NRS 205.760; Fraudulent Use of a Credit/Debit Card, NRS 205.228; Grand Larceny of a Motor Vehicle and N.R.S. 205.275; Possession of Stolen Property, NRS 205.463; Obtaining the Personal Identifying Information of Another and NRS 205.275; Possession of Stolen Property. Total Bail for all charges $75,920.00
Jesse Michael Simpson was booked on charges of NRS 205.228; Grand Larceny of a Motor Vehicle, NRS 205.275; Possession of Stolen Property NRS 205.060; Burglary of a Motor Vehicle, two (2) counts of NRS 205.690; Possession of a Credit/Debit Card without the Cardholders Consent, NRS 205.275; Buy, Possess or Receive Stolen Property and NRS 199.480; Conspiracy to Commit a Crime. Total Bail for all charges $24,780.00.
Cory Hokanson was booked on charges of NRS 205.275; Possession of Stolen Property, NRS 199.480; Conspiracy to Commit a Crime and NRS 205.760; Fraudulent Use of a Credit Card, NRS 205. 273; Possession of a Stolen Vehicle, and NRS 453.336; Possession of a Schedule I/II Controlled Substance. Total bail for all charges $32,500.00.
Kelly Marie Sand was booked for a violation of NRS 197.190; Obstruct Public Officer. Bil $640.00
Katrina Macedo was booked for a violation of NRS 199.335 due to an outstanding Felony Bench Warrant. No bail hold.
