Obituary: James Martin Elquist

James Martin Elquist passed away peacefully in his home on August 2, 2022. 

Jim was born to John Kimball and Marva Jane Elquist on October 23, 1936 in Oakley, Idaho.

He had eight siblings. Sisters; Mary Elquist, Gloria Smith, and Susan Elquist and brothers; Bob, Bill, Alan, Larry “Cougar” and John “Bugs”. 

Jim graduated from BMHS in 1954. After graduation, he attended college. He also served in the United States Army for a couple of years.  

After serving in the Army, he flew home and started a life in his hometown, Battle Mountain, Nevada. 

There are many things Jim enjoyed doing, but one of his favorites was mining and prospecting in the Nevada Mountains.

Jim started “Elquist Mining” one of the stones he mined was “Blue Gem Turquoise”. 

He would also make his own custom jewelry. Every piece of jewelry he made was always a beautiful piece of jewelry. 

Jim was a very proud father. He enjoyed his family. He was also very proud of his eight grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. 

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Marva Jane and John Kimball Elquist, brothers, Bob Elquist, Bill Elquist, Alan Elquist, Larry Elquist, John Elquist and his sons, Danny Elquist and Matthew Elquist. 

He is survived by his daughter, Jessica Mortensen, and son David (Ann) Elquist. 

His grandchildren, Danielle Mayberry, George Mayberry, Hayden Elquist, Xander Elquist, Cade Elquist, Bella Elquist, Danika Crosby and Dylan Elquist. 

His great-granddaughter, Aria Solis. His sisters, Gloria (Dean) Smith and Susan Elquist as well as numerous nieces and nephews.  

Jim will be truly missed by his family and friends. 

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 17, 2022 at 11:00am at Lions Park 592 N 1st St in Battle Mountain, NV.
