Obituary: Jacqueline “Jackie” Ellsbeth Sluder Arbonies

Jacqueline “Jackie” Ellsbeth Sluder Arbonies, 91, passed away peacefully on July 26, 2022.

Jackie was born on March 25, 1931, on her family farm, in Forgan Oklahoma to James Sluder and Stella Dermid Sluder.

Jackie left school in the 8th grade to care for her mother who suffered a stroke and became an invalid.

When she was 11 years old, she and her parents moved to Maywood California and they lived there into her 20’s.

That’s where she met her future husband, John Arbonies, who was from Winnemucca.

Jackie and John went to Yuma Arizona and eloped on June 23, 1956. In 1958, they moved to Winnemucca with her parents and grew their family.

They were blessed with 4 children: Jim, Beth, Rod, and Virgil (Tom). Jackie lived here with her family for 63 years of her life.

Jackie was a dedicated member of the First Baptist Church for 60 years and a Sunday school teacher around 30 years.

In the last years of her life when she was no longer able to leave home and attend church, her friends came to visit her every week and they had Monday School together in the comfort of her home.

This was something that she always looked forward to and enjoyed very much.

Jackie worked at the Kracaw Potato Plant around 20 years sorting potatoes until retirement.

She enjoyed gardening, baking, photography, making home movies, reading fiction novels, watching old western movies and game shows, reading her Bible and attending church.

She loved living in Winnemucca, out in the country, where she could enjoy the peace and quiet that small town life brings.

In the last 6 weeks of her life, Jackie lived in North Carolina with her daughter and family taking care of her. As much as she loved her home and family in Winnemucca, she was excited about her new adventure.

Jackie was preceded in death by her husband, John Arbonies; her son Virgil Thomas Arbonies; and her grandson, Josh Arbonies.

Those left to cherish her memory are her son Jim and wife Dawn; daughter Beth and husband Mike; son Rod; her grandchildren, Helen, Mike ll and wife Darla, John and wife Crystal, Stephanie and husband Brett, Nikki and Angie; and great grand children, Kaitlin, Madi, Peter, Phoebe and Lily.

The family of Jackie would like to thank her Monday School church group that came to visit her at home as it brought life to her and gave her something to look forward to every week.

We would also like to thank Guiding Light Hospice for taking such great care of her when she could no longer leave home.

She loved her nurses very much and always looked forward to their visits together. Also a thank you to Quality Janitorial for visiting and helping her as well.

A funeral service will be held for Jackie at First Baptist Church, 515 Garrison Street in Winnemucca Nevada on Friday, August 19th at 10AM.

All are welcome to attend and celebrate the life of Jackie, an amazing wife, mother, grandmother and friend.
