Area high school teams start 2022 fall season

With summer coming to an end, despite the temperatures saying something different, the start of the school year is just around the corner and high school athletes are hitting the field and court this weekend.

The Lowry football team will host Fernley in a non-conference game on Friday, with the JV kicking off at 4:30 p.m. and the varsity at 7 p.m. 

The Buckaroo varsity volleyball team will be in Lovelock on Friday and Saturday for the Pershing County tournament, while the freshmen and JV teams will be in Truckee.

The Lowry cross country team will make its way to Minden on Friday for the Douglas Class Races.

The Lowry soccer teams will get going a week later with a two-day tournament at Spring Creek on Aug. 26-27. 

The girls golf team is scheduled to play in Spring Creek on Sept. 6 and Elko on Sept. 7.

The McDermitt football team is scheduled to travel to Wells on Thursday for a 7 p.m. kickoff. 

The Lady Bulldogs volleyball team will head west in I-80 to play Pyramid Lake on Friday.

The Battle Mountain football team will hold a Green/Gold Game on Friday and open the regular season on Aug. 26. They will travel to Winnemucca to play Lowry in a non-conference match-up. JV starts at 4:30 p.m. and the varsity at 7 p.m.

The Lady Longhorns volleyball team will travel to Ely on Friday and Saturday and then host its tournament on Aug. 26-27.

The girls golf team will be in Spring Creek on Aug. 25 for a 10 a.m. tee time and the girls soccer team begins its season at home on Sept. 2 against Sage Ridge at 2 p.m. and Sept. 3 versus Yerington at 10 a.m.

The Pershing County High school football team will hold a scrimmage on Saturday at 10 a.m. 

The Mustangs’ regular season opener is Friday, Aug. 26 at Portola, Calif., at 7 p.m.

The Pershing County volleyball team will be home on Friday and Saturday for a two-day tournament. The Lady Mustangs’ soccer team hosts a tournament on Aug. 26-27.
