Obituary: Dorothy J. Ahern

Dorothy was born on January 19, 1934 in Yerington, Nevada to Manuel and Agnes Gruilli.

She spent her childhood in Yerington with her Mom, Dad, brothers and sister.

She met Bill Ahern in Fallon, Nevada and they were married on January1, 1962.

Their son Danny was born in Yerington and on October 13, 1969 the Ahern family packed up their trailer and moved to Battle Mountain where Bill would be the town Barber until September of 1996.

They moved their trailer to the Old Welch ranch trailer park where they lived until their trailer burned.

They then bought property and a trailer out at Hilltop and this is where Dorothy remained until she went into Assisted living in March of 2022.

Her son Danny passed away on May 12, 1987 and husband Bill on March 3, 1998.

Dorothy was so proud of Danny as he graduated High School and went to Diesel Mechanic school in Elko and was working for Cashman at the time of his death.

The Ahern’s had a Danny Ahern Scholarship at the College.

Dorothy worked for 18 years at Battle Mountain Gold and retired on 6/30/92.

After that she worked at Lander Mechanical and the Battle Mountain Library and made many more good friends.

We in Battle Mountain remember Dorothy and Bill with all their animals. Bill was a trader and they always had horses, goats, ducks, geese and you name it.

After Danny passed they gave a revolving trophy each year at the Battle Mt Jr Rodeo in his honor and many local kids won that award.

Dorothy was a member of St John Catholic Church and was very active in the Altar Society and the Church.

Members of the Altar Society threw her a nice 88th birthday and she was so Happy to see everyone and it was a great day.

Dorothy had a heart attack on March 11 and was taken to St Mary’s after being released she just could not get mobile again and went from assisted living to hospitals and finally landed at Fernley Estates.

This was a wonder place to end her journey and after last rites she left this world in peace on July 9th, 2022.

Dorothy’s wishes were to be buried in Yearington Nevada with her husband Bill and son Danny at the family plot.

A graveside service was held on July 15th.

A rosary will be held in Battle Mountain, at a later date.

Donations may be sent to Saint John Bosco Church in Battle Mountain.
