Nevada players earn preseason honors

RENO — Nevada offensive lineman Aaron Frost was named to the Outland Trophy Preseason Watch List, the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) announced recently.

It marks Frost’s second preseason accolade in as many weeks. The fifth-year offensive lineman was named to the Preseason All-Mountain West Team.

Frost, a two-time selection to the All-Mountain West Second Team (2020-21), is expected to anchor The Union in 2022. He is one of 89 players on the watch list for the Outland Trophy, which is given to the best interior lineman in college football (centers, guards, and tackles are eligible).

Last season, Frost appeared in all 13 games, bringing his career total of games played for the Pack to 43.

In 2021 he helped pave the way for the sixth-best passing offense in the country, while the Pack offense also ranked eighth in the nation in red-zone offense and 17th nationally in scoring offense (35.7 ppg).

Talton named to Lou Groza Award Preseason Watch List

For the third-straight year, Nevada kicker Brandon Talton is on the Lou Groza Award Preseason Watch List, as announced by the Palm Beach County Sports Commission.

Talton, a two-time All-Mountain West selection (First Team, 2019; Second Team, 2020) and four-time Mountain West Special Teams Player of the Week, made 22-of-30 field-goal attempts a season ago, while converting all 52 of his PAT attempts, a career-high.

His 118 points set a Nevada single-season record for kickers, eclipsing Damon Shea’s previous benchmark of 115 in 1996.

Entering the 2022 season, Talton, a senior, ranks sixth all-time at Nevada with 107 made PATs, while his 58 field goals rank third on the program’s all-time list. His 281 career points ranks fourth all-time among Nevada kickers.

Swint lands on second preseason watch list of 2022

Nevada Defensive back Christian Swint was named a nominee for the Wuerffel Trophy, landing on his second preseason watch list of 2022.

He was previously named a nominee for the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team on July 20.

The Wuerffel Trophy, College Football’s Premier Award for Community Service, honors college football players who serve others, celebrate their positive impact on society, and inspire greater service in the world.

Swint, a fifth-year member of the Wolf Pack, was honored in May as one of Nevada Athletics’ two recipients of the Give Back Like Jack Community Service Award.

The award is given annually to a Wolf Pack student-athlete and staff member who best exemplify the dedication to community service that was the hallmark of longtime Reno and Sparks philanthropist Jack Reviglio’s life.

Swint, a Compton, Calif. native, spent the past year volunteering with Path to Independence, a program for students with intellectual disabilities to attend college and earn a certificate, in the University of Nevada’s Center for Excellence in Disabilities.
