Battle Mountain senior Nolan Chopp swept the shot put and discus at the Eureka Invitational on Friday, April 15.
Chopp set season-bests in each event, throwing the shot put 42 feet, 4 inches and the discus 120-0. Aydan Samuelson was the runner-up in the discus with a toss of 110-0 and the senior was fourth in the shot put at 37-0.
Sean Bengoa set a personal best in the 100-meter dash to finish with a time of 11.84 and he ran a personal best as well in the 200 meters to place fourth in a time of 24.50.
The junior placed third in the high jump with a personal-best leap of 5-9 and he was fifth in the long jump at 17-3.
Zach Duggan ran a personal best in the 300-meter hurdles at 48.68 to finish second and Blake Stuart (20.72), Duggan (20.78) and Andy Wall (21.74) set personal bests in the 110-meter hurdles to place fifth, sixth and ninth, respectively.
In addition, Stuart set a personal best in the triple jump at 31-3 to place sixth, he was seventh in the high jump at 5-2 and 15th in the 200 meters in a time of 27.24, a personal best.
Sean Scherer was seventh in the triple jump with a leap of 30-0 and 13th in the 400 meters with a time of 1:01.75.
Armando Eusebio placed eighth in the long jump with a leap of 16-4 and Scott Wall was 12th at 15-1.5. Wall also placed 11th in the 200 meters in a time of 25.90, which was a personal best.
The 4x200 relay of Julian Sosa, Aden Payzant, Scherer and Christian Aleman were second with a time of 1:48.68.
The 4x400 relay of Ernesto Leon, Antoine Powell, Samuelson and Scott Wall were fourth at 4:51.11.
The 4x100 relay of Andy Wall, Aleman, Scott Wall and Duggan placed fifth with a time of 51.08.
The Battle Mountain boys were second in the team standings with 94.5 points. Spring Creek won the team title with 139.5 points. Elko (57), Jackpot (54) and West Wendover (52) rounded out the top five.
On the girls side, Jolena Ayers took home titles in the 400 meters and 800 meters. The junior stopped the clock at 1:05.12 in the 400 meters and 2:38.93 in the 800.
She placed second in the triple jump, setting a personal best at 33-2.50.
Fellow junior, Jennifer Galvin placed sixth in the 1,600 meters with a time of 6:39.16 and sixth in the shot put with a throw of 26-6. Galvin was 14th in the discus with a toss of 63-9.
Bailey Elderkin (27-2.75) and Lindsey Bleak (26-3) set personal bests in the triple jump to place seventh and eighth, respectively.
Elderkin also set a personal best in the long jump at 11-7 to place 18th. Bleak ran a personal best 14.50 in the 100 meters to place 13th and another best in the 200 meters with a time of 14.50.
Tessa Ostler set personal bests in the 100 meters (14.91), 200 meters (32.15) and 400 meters (1:14.09).
Lilly Peterson placed 13th in the long jump with a leap of 12-3 and was 21st in the 100-meter dash at 15.14, with a personal best.
Yezzel Guizar finished 15th in the shot with a throw of 23-0 and she set a personal best in the discus at 58-.150 to place 19th.
The 4x800 relay of Ayers, Galvin. Oster and Emily Lisabelle were second with a time of 12:10.02 and the 4x100 relay of Bleak, Elderkin, Peterson and Guizar were seventh at 1:02.48.
Spring Creek won the girls team title with 106 points and host Eureka was second at 81.5. Battle Mountain finished sixth with 46.5 points.
Battle Mountain was scheduled to compete at the War Coates Invitational this past weekend in Spring Creek.
The meet was canceled due to poor weather. The Longhorns travel to Winnemucca on Saturday, May 7, for the Lowry Invitational.
