Obituary: Barbara Jean (Hagemeister) Grasmick

Barbara Jean (Hagemeister) Grasmick; wife, mother, and beloved grandmother, passed through this veil of life to be with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, April 10, 2022, Palm Sunday.

Barbara was born March 13, 1939, in Crawford, Nebraska to Henry Lawrence Hagemeister and Isabel Ruth (Richardson) Hagemeister.

In 1956, Barbara met the love of her life, Kenneth Grasmick, in Jeffery City, Wyoming. They married on August 29, 1958, in Lander, Wyoming.

At the time of Ken’s passing, June 9, 2020, they had already celebrated 61 years of marriage. Barbara and Ken raised nine children during the life of their marriage.

Prior to becoming residents of Winnemucca, Nevada; Barbara and her husband had lived a large portion of their life in Shoshoni, Wyoming, where six of their children attended and graduated from Shoshoni High School. Their remaining three children graduated from Lowry High School.

While living in Winnemucca, Barbara was a member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church.

During her time as a parishioner, she took an active role in the CCD formation program and was one of the teachers who took great interest in the educating the children in their Faith. A role that she took very seriously and enjoyed very much.

Barbara enjoyed the simplest of life’s pleasures. Her life’s interests included reading, picnics, camping, and spending time with her family and friends.

Barbara loved being a grandmother. She actively participated in this role by watching and re-watching favorite Disney movies with the little children and reading books to them.

In 2020, Barbara was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and Dementia. It was during this time in her life that her children decided that was in their mother’s best interest to be placed in the Long-Term Care Facility in Battle Mountain, Nevada.

At this time Barbara’s children would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude and thanksgiving to all the Nurses, CNAs, Social Worker Coordinator, the Doctors, housekeeping, food service, and her special roommates, Leslie and Bobbie, for making mother feel loved.

It was obvious to Barbara’s children that the LTC Staff and residents welcomed Barbara into their lives in so many ways. Further gratitude is also extended to Father Tommy Joseph and Deacon Dennis Cahill from St. John Bosco Catholic Church for the spiritual care that they had ministered to Barbara.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Isabel, sister, Mary, Brother, Frank, husband, Kenneth, son, Mike and grandson, Jeremy.

Barbara is survived by her children; Kenneth Jr. (Kay) Grasmick – Winnemucca, NV; Robert (Tami) Grasmick – Evanston, WY; Debbie (Russ) Ackerman – Riverton, WY; Connie (Ralph) Tuft – Magnolia, TX; James (Rosie) Grasmick – Huntington Beach, CA; Gary Grasmick – Winnemucca, NV; Mark Grasmick – Winnemucca, NV; Patricia (Jeff) Beattie – Gulf Port, MS. Barbara is also survived by 19 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

A Funeral Mass will be announced at a later date.
