It was more like football than softball weather last Tuesday when Pershing hosted Lowry JV for a non-league matchup.
Pershing County pulled off the win (16-6), bringing their record to 17-1-1 overall and 12-0 in the 2A.
The cold weather appeared to energize the Mustangs. Taylor Garland struck out nine Buckaroos, surrendering six runs on two hits over the five innings. Aaliyah Allen handled the catching.
The Mustangs got 11 hits. Bela Rosas and Yasmine McKinney each went three for four at the plate.
The other five hits came from Raegan Burrows, Kassandra Swindlehurst, KayLee Poffenroth, Kaylen Halverson and Allen.
“We came out hitting from the beginning,” said Jordan McKinney. “We had some mistakes and let Lowry JV score some runs to tie it up. What I’m most proud of is my girls didn’t give up on each other or themselves. They kept their cool. They knew they could score runs as long as they were patient at the plate and hit the ball like they are capable of hitting.”
Burrows, Garland and McKinney each scored three runs. Anna Happy added two.
The home crowd also cheered for Rosas, Poffenroth, Halverson and Allen with one run each.
On Tuesday, April 19, Pershing County hosted Yerington for the first of a three-game series. Results were not available at press time. They’ll finish up the series in Lion country on Saturday.
