After winning its first six Northern 2A games by forfeit, the Battle Mountain High School softball team got to see its first league action on the field with a road trip to Yerington this past weekend.
The Lions, who are undefeated on the season, stayed that way, sweeping the Lady Longhorns in three games. Yerington won the series opener on Friday 7-3 and swept a doubleheader on Saturday 7-1 and 5-3. Battle Mountain dropped to 10-5 overall and 6-3 in the Northern 2A.

In the opening game of the series on Friday, Yerington jumped on the board with three runs in the bottom of the second inning and never trailed.
Battle Mountain got two of those runs back in the top of the third inning to cut the deficit to 3-1, only to see the Lions tack on a run in the bottom of the third to go back up by a couple runs at 4-2.
After a scoreless fourth inning, the Lady Longhorns chopped the lead back to 4-3 in the top of the fifth inning.
However, Yerington answered back with a single run in the fifth and added two insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth to hold on for the victory.
Freshman Thalia Gonzalez had two of Battle Mountain’s three hits and she also scored a run. Hailee Andersen was 1-of-3 with a run scored and Kiana Gonzalez scored a run.
Shea Jones took the loss in the circle, allowing seven runs (three earned). She struck out five and walked three.

In the opening game on Saturday, Yerington broke a scoreless tie with a single run in the bottom of the third inning and put the contest out of reach with five runs in the fourth inning.
The Lady Longhorns did not get on the board until the seventh inning, when Marena Fuller scored the lone run. Heidy Amezcua and Fuller had hits, including a triple from Fuller.
Jones went the distance in the circle but took the loss. She allowed seven runs (three earned), with six strikeouts and three walks.

After giving up a single run in the first inning, Battle Mountain took its first lead of the series with a pair of runs in the top of the third inning.
The Lions tied the game in the bottom of the fourth at 2-2, when the Lady Longhorns reclaimed the advantage at 3-2 in the fifth inning.
The lead did not last long, as the Lions plated three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to complete the sweep.
Fuller paced the Lady Longhorns with two hits, while Gonzalez, Andersen and Jones each had a hit. Gonzalez scored a pair of runs and Jones had an RBI.
Jones pitched her third game of the series and allowed five runs (two earned) with five walks and three strikeouts.
Battle Mountain is scheduled to play North Tahoe this weekend.
