After opening with five straight wins in the Northern 2A, the Battle Mountain High School baseball team suffered its first losses in league play this past weekend in Yerington.
The Lions won all three games of the tripleheader to drop the Longhorns to 9-6 overall and 5-3 in the Northern 2A.
Yerington won the first game on Friday 8-0 and swept Saturday’s games 5-2 and 13-4.

Yerington got the all the offense it needed in the first inning on Friday afternoon, plating five runs.
The Lions got two runners past the pate in the third inning and added a single run in the sixth inning.
Battle Mountain was held to two hits — one each by Jake Perrone and Terrance Fetterly.
Yerington’s Justin Evasovic struck out 16 Longhorn batters on the day on just 87 pitches.
Marcos Jimenez took the loss for Battle Mountain, allowing eight runs on eight hits in six innings of work. He struck out four and walked three.

Battle Mountain found itself in a quick deficit once again in the first game on Saturday, as Yerington scored three runs in the bottom the first inning and never trailed.
The Lions added to their led with two runs in the third inning, when the Longhorns scored its first run of the series in the sixth inning.
Battle Mountain tacked on another run in the seventh inning but could not complete the comeback.
Anthony Del Rio had three of Battle Mountain’s eight hits, while Marcos Jimenez, Sage Holte, Cannyn Bundy, Asher Bundrock and Fetterly had one hit apiece.
Del Rio took the loss on the mound, allowing five runs on six hits. He struck out seven and walked one.

Battle Mountain grabbed its first lead of the series, opening up the scoring with a single run in the series finale.
However, Yerington reclaimed the advantage in the bottom of the first with three runs and added single runs in the second and third innings to go in front 5-3.
The Longhorns closed the gap to 5-4 in the top of the fourth inning, but the Lions tacked on three runs in the fourth inning and pulled away with five runs in the fifth inning.
Battle Mountain had its best offensive game, with four players with more than one hit. Jimenez was 3-for-4, with three runs scored, while Jr. Vazquez, Pablo Piedra and Del Rio each had two hits. Del Rio drove in two runs, as did Fetterly, who had one hit. Perrone also had a hit.
Vazquez and Jimenez split time on the mound, as Vazquez allowed 13 runs (10 earned) on 12 hits. He struck out five and walked one. Jimenez gave up one hit in 1.1 innings of work.
Battle Mountain is back on the road this weekend to play North Tahoe, beginning with a single game on Friday at 4 p.m.
