The Nevada High School Rodeo Association was back in action with rodeos in Las Vegas (March 11-13) and back in northern Nevada in Fernley (March 18-20).
In Las Vegas, Humboldt County’s Emma Garijo was second in the barrel racing wo-day average with a time of 33.621. She was second in the first performance in a time of 16.740 and third in the second performance at 16.881.
She placed 10th in breakaway roping at 16.580, which included a fifth-place finish in the second performance at 3.74. Garijo was 24th in pole bending.
In girls cutting, Ashley Rookstool placed eighth after runs of 62 and 61 points.
Lexi Garijo, who is headed to UNLV on a rodeo scholarship, was fifth in breakaway roping with an average of 13.380.
After a slow start in the first performance, she won the second performance in a time of 2.62, the quickest on the weekend.
In boys cutting, Cooper Hill was fourth in the average with 122 points, scoring 61 points in each performance.
Battle Mountain’s Coombs wins

Battle Mountain’s Desi Coombs took home the top spot in barrel racing, sweeping each performance with times of 16.178 and 16.384. Coombs placed ninth in the breakaway roping average, including a fifth-place outing in the first performance at 4.070. In addition, she was 17th in pole bending.
Amelia Lancaster and team roping partner Jarrett Peak from Fallon were second in the team roping average at 27.410. Lancaster placed fifth in the pole bending average in a time of 48.008. She knocked down a pole in the first performance but bounced back for a runner-up finish in the second performance at 21.248. Lancaster was 12th in breakaway roping and 16th in barrel racing.
In Fernley, Humboldt County’s Natalie Mori was fourth in reined cow horse with 275.5 points and she turned in a ninth-place finish in the barrel racing average with a time of 37.347. She placed sixth in girls cutting with runs of 62 and 68 points.
Lexi Garijo was 14th in breakaway roping after missing her calf in the second performance.
She was ninth in the first performance with a time of 12.4. Emma Garijo placed 17th in breakaway roping with times of 13.010 and 12.900. Emma Garijo placed 26th in pole bending.
Billy DeLong won the boys cutting with an average of 143 points, sweeping the performances with 70 and 73 points.
He placed fifth in steer wrestling, which included a runner-up finish in the first performance at 17.410.
He did not have a time in the second performance. DeLong was second in the saddle bronc, scoring 72 points in the first performance. Wells’ Eyer Morrison won with a ride of 75 points. There were no completed rides in the second performance.
Cooper Hill placed third in boys cutting with 138.5 points.
Battle Mountain’s Gracie Lou Holman win breakaway

Battle Mountain’s Gracie Lou Holman captured the average title in breakaway roping with a time of 7.26. She posted the quickest time of the weekend at 2.94 to win the second performance.
She placed fifth in girls cutting with 135 points and was second in the second performance with 71 points.
Italy Jo Holman was 11th in barrel racing, followed by Lancaster in 14th and Coombs in 16th. Coombs turned in a fifth-place outing in breakaway roping, Lancaster finished 22nd and Italy Jo Holman was 27th.
Jolena Ayers turned in a fourth-place finish in goat tying at 20.070 and she won the second performance at 8.810, the quickest run of the weekend.
Coombs was ninth in pole bending, Lancaster 14th and Italy Jo Holman 21st. Lancaster and Peek were sixth in the team roping average.
The association was in Spanish Springs this past weekend and heads to Fallon (April 15-17).
