Pershing County track and field sent eight athletes to the Battle Mountain Invitational this past Friday, Apr. 1. Results were not available at press time but Matt and Cassidie Fuller remain pleased with the team’s progress.

Some attendees took home a souvenir, sunburn. However, the athletes enjoyed the mild weather and light wind.

“Every week they’re becoming bigger, faster and stronger,” said Matt Fuller. “They are running faster, jumping further and throwing further each week.”

The girls included Kylee Fuller, Rylee Renfroe, Yasmine Acosta, Eudosia Mendoza and Grace Kalsem. Fuller, Renfroe, Acosta and Mendoza ran the 4x200 relay.

The team members also competed in several other hurdles and races.

The boys were Daniel Jimenez, Efrain Gonzalez and Brayden Wagner. Jimenez and Gonzalez each ran the 200 meters and battled for the most inches in the long jump.

Wagner threw the shotput and discus. He also ran the 100-meter dash.

“We are looking forward to the next six weeks leading into the regionals,” said Fuller.

On Friday, April 15, the track team travels to Eureka for an invitational meet.
