Obituary: Eric Prawitz

Eric Prawitz was born to Miles and Jennie Prawitz of Emmett, Idaho on October 4, 1949.

Eric graduated Emmett High School early and enlisted with the Navy at the age of 17.

He was a communications specialist and was deployed to Vietnam where he served during the Vietnam War.

He returned to Idaho after the Navy and later started a family and had two boys, Ryan and Chad.  Eric was an avid outdoorsman and taught his boys to camp, shoot, hunt and fish in the mountains, rivers, streams, reservoirs and lakes of Idaho.

In 1988, Eric and the boys relocated to Battle Mountain, NV.  Eric eventually went to work for the Lander County Sheriff’s Office where he spent 12 years.

He was also a trainer at POST (Police Officers Standard Training School) in Carson City for up and coming deputies.

Eric served the community as the coroner, volunteer soccer coach for AYSO and BMHS, and as a range master at the shooting range.

He was a sharpshooter to say the least, be it a pistol or a rifle and loved the sport of shooting.

He was also a talented golfer and you could find him at the golf course almost any day of the week.

He was quick of wit and eager to share a laugh.  His eyes, smile and laughter lit up the room when he walked into it.

Nothing phased Eric and he embraced every day and made the most of each.

He was a road warrior and enjoyed loading up in his truck to go visit family in Arizona and Idaho where he would typically spend about a third of his year.

He was a hard-working man and always kept busy which instilled those values in his children.

Even at 72 years of age when he passed, he was still hard to keep up with and he wouldn’t have wanted it any other way.

Eric is preceded in death by his parents and oldest sister.  He leaves behind two older brothers, his boys and grandchildren.

He is already dearly missed, but we know in our hearts Heaven is a little bit brighter than it was because he’s there lighting it up like he did his time on Earth.

Godspeed Father and Friend because you wouldn’t have it any other way…and neither would we.  We love you Dad.

There will be a Celebration of Life held for Eric Prawitz on June 11, 2022 at 5pm at the Battle Mountain Civic Center.  Donations can be made to your local American Legion in lieu of flowers.
