After reeling off eight impressive wins in a row, the Lowry High School softball team was handed a one-run loss in extra innings to open Northern 3A East play in Elko this past weekend.
The Indians grabbed a 4-0 lead on Friday afternoon, when the Lady Bucks rallied for four runs in the seventh. Elko went on to the 5-4 win, scoring in the bottom of the eighth.
Lowry bounced back on Saturday and swept a doubleheader 13-10 and 14-1 to improve to 10-4 overall, 8-1 in the Northern 3A and 2-1 in the Northern 3A East.

Lowry had an opportunity to take the lead in the third after loading the bases. Jada Matheny and Bailey Hayes singled and Savannah Stoker was intentionally walked.
However, the frame ended with a groundball to second base.
Elko then plated three runs in the bottom of the third innings and extended the advantage to 4-0 in the fifth inning on the strength of a triple and single.
After being held at bay for much of the contest, rallied for four runs in the seventh to tie the game. Shelbie Hoyt and Hayes began the rally with walks.
Stoker singled to leftfield to load the bases and the Lady Bucks got on the board with a single by Kenzi Dowd-Smith. Megan Cook followed with a single to centerfield that scored Hayes and Stoker to make the score 4-3. Dowd-Smith scored the tying run on a wild pitch.
Elko put together three singles in the eight to win the game.
Cook. Hayes and Dowd-Smith each had two hits for the Lady Bucks. Kadence Cooney, Matheny, Stoker and Hoyt had one hits apiece. Stoker was walked four times.
Cooney suffered the loss in the circle, allowing five runs (two earned) on 10 hits. She struck out nine and walked two.

Lowry fell behind 1-0 in the first inning in Saturday’s first game, but quickly erased the deficit with nine runs in the third inning. After a leadoff walk to Matheny, Stoker and Hoyt had back-to-back doubles to make the score 1-1. Dowd-Smith, Cook and Cooney followed with singles, with a walk to Hayes in the mix as well.
Hayden Case and Maddison McClure added doubles of their own and Lowry took a 9-1 lead.
Elko was able to close the gap to 10-7 after the fifth inning, only to see Lowry pull away with three runs in the top of the sixth inning.
McClure had a two-RBI double that scored Hayes and Cook and Matheny closed out the Buckaroo scoring with a double to score Case.
Lowry had two outs in the seventh inning, but Elko hit a three-run home run to make the score 13-11. The Indians would get no closer.
Lowry pounded out 17 hits, with Cook and Case picking up three each. Hoyt, Hayes, McClure and Cooney each had two. Case and Cooney each drove in three runs.
Stoker picked up the win in the circle, allowing 10 runs (five earned) on 14 hits. She struck out six and walked nine.

Lowry overcame another 1-0 deficit and scored three runs apiece in the second and fourth innings to go in front 6-1. The Lady Bucks put the game out of reach with eight runs in the sixth inning.
Cambria Tissue, Hayes and Hoyt had two hits apiece and Dowd-Smith had one hit, four RBI and three runs scored.
Bailey Peterson. Cool, Stoker and Cooney each had one hit.
Cooney was dominant in her second time against Elko, allowing one run on seven hits. She struck out five and walked two.
Lowry is off this week and returns to action in Las Vegas with a three-day tournament.
The Lady Bucks were scheduled to play Fernley at home but the Vaqueros asked to move the series so they could play in the tournament.
The left a void in the Lowry scheduled and now the Lady Bucks are headed to the same tournament.
Lowry is scheduled to play Pahrump Valley, Palo Verde, Winslow (Ariz.) and two other opponents.
