The Northern 3A girls golf schedule made its way to Winnemucca and Fallon this past week, with a familiar face atop the standings.
Douglas continued its winning ways on Monday, Sept. 13, winning the tournament held at Winnemucca Municipal Golf Course with a score of 382.
Lowry placed second on its home course at 394 and Truckee was third at 399. Elko (428), Fernley (471), Spring Creek (489) and Dayton (600) rounded out the team scores.
Truckee’s Ryan Flynn was the low medalist for the third tournament in a row, shooting a 2-under par 70. Lowry’s Katie Cassinelli shot a career-best 87 to place second. Cassinelli, a freshman for the Lady Bucks, broke 90 for the first time. Douglas’ Giana Zinke was third with a round of 90.
Lowry’s Bailey Hayes and Douglas’ Abiggail Detsch tied for fourth with rounds of 96.
Piper Nichols carded a 101 for the Lady Bucks and Presley Hayes had the final kept score for Lowry at 110. Jordyn Medicine Cloud shot 153 for the Lady Bucks and Crystal Castillo played in her first tournament for Lowry.
Douglas wins
in Fallon
The Northern 3A moved to Fallon on Tuesday, Sept. 24, and Douglas carded a 382 for the second day in a row to win the tournament. Truckee shot a season-best 391 to finish second at 391.
Lowry dropped to third place, shooting a 398 and Elko (433) and Fernley (474) were fourth and fifth, respectively.
Flynn was the low medalist once again, shooting a 71 on the Fallon Golf Course. Douglas’ Abby Miller was the runner-up at 87 and Lowry’s Bailey Hayes shot a season-best 93 to finish third.
Cassinelli recorded a score of 95 for the Lady Bucks, followed by Nichols at 100, Presley Hayes (110) and Medicine Cloud (148). Castillo also played but her score wasn’t recorded.
The Northern 3A doesn’t hold a regional championship and the state tournament berths are decided on the final regular season team standings based on points. Douglas leads the league with 25 points, Lowry is second at 22 and Truckee (18) is third. Elko (15) and Fernley (9) round out the top five.
Lowry has three golfers in the top seven in the individual standings, the best in the league.
Flynn from Truckee and Zinke from Douglas are first in second in the Northern 3A.
Lowry’s Cassinelli and Bailey Hayes are third and fourth, respectively, and Nichols is seventh.
Lowry is back on the course on Monday, Sept. 27, at Empire Ranch Golf Course, which Dayton High School is hosting.
