The Lowry High School volleyball team picked up its first league victories of the year this past weekend over two Northern 3A West schools.
Lowry hosted Sparks on Friday and beat the Railroaders 25-10, 25-2 and 25-10.
The Lady Bucks had an early-morning wake-up call on Saturday for a trip to Reno and Lowry beat Hug 25-11, 25-17 and 25-18 to improve to 2-1 in league play.
Lowry dominated Sparks from the start, jumping out to a 11-3 lead in the first set on the strength of two aces by Kadence Cooney and kills from Kailey Franklin and Cambria Tisue.
The strong serving continued for Lowry, as Sparks had trouble with their serve receive defense.
Savannah Stoker added two aces in the opening set and Megan Cook also contributed an ace to give the Lady Bucks a 20-7 advantage. Lowry closed out the set on a 5-3 run.
Lowry scored the first six points of the second set, with half of those coming off of aces by Cooney. Franklin had a kill and Stoker a block during that run.
The Railroaders ended the run at 6-0, only to see the Lady Bucks score the next 12 points to lead 18-1. Franklin had four aces in the spurt, while Stoker added two kills.
The 12-0 run ended with a Lowry serving error, but Lowry scored the final six points of the set on an ace by Stoker and a kill by Tisue.
Cooney and Alexandra combined for three kills in the early part of the third set, as Lowry raced out to a 9-3 lead. Stoker added three more aces midway through the set, with Cook adding two of her own. The Lady Bucks led 21-5 at one point before winning 25-10.
Lowry is back on the road for three matches in the next week. The Lady Bucks are scheduled to travel to South Tahoe on Friday for a 6 p.m., match. Lowry will be in Reno on Saturday to play North Valleys at noon.
The Lady Bucks begin Northern 3A East play on Wednesday, Sept. 22, at Fallon at 6 p.m.
Lowry is back on its home court on Oct. 1 and Oct. 2, against Dayton and Fernley, respectively.
