With a condensed schedule this past spring, the Lowry High School volleyball team didn’t face any opponent from the Northern 3A West.
Now, that the schedule is back to normal, the Lady Buckaroos opened their home schedule last Wednesday against perennial power Truckee.
Lowry gave Truckee first for most of the night, only to see the Wolverines come out on top 25-16, 24-26, 25-12 and 25-21.
Truckee jumped out to a quick start, scoring eight of the first 11 points of the first set.
Lowry slowly climbed back within two points at 15-13, when Cambria Tissue got the ball back over the net, by hitting the behind her into an open space on the Truckee side of the floor.
The Wolverines closed out the set on a 9-3 run, including the final five points.
Lowry turned the tables on Truckee in the second set, scoring eight of the first 10 points, including an ace from Kadence Cooney and kills by Kailey Franklin and Alexandra Barocio.
Barocio also had a tip during that run.
Later in the second set, Cooney added two more aces and a block, giving Lowry a comfortable advantage at 20-9.
The lead quickly disappeared as Truckee scored the next seven points.
The spurt ended with a Truckee hitting error.
Lowry led 22-18 after another kill by Barocio, but Truckee came back to tie the set at 24.
The Buckaroos reclaimed the lead with a kill by Franklin and won the set on a block by Cooney.
The two teams traded points at the beginning of the third set, as Lowry picked a kill from Mckenzi Petersen and tips from Megan Cook and Barocio.
The set was tied one last time at 9-9 following a kill by Savannah Stoker.
However, Truckee went on a 9-2 run from there to go in front 19-12, outscoring Lowry 16-3 to close out the set.
Lowry took control of the third set at 7-3 on a kill by Stoker, but Truckee fired back with a 14-5 run to take a lead.
Late in the match, Stoker added a kill and tip to bring the Lady Bucks within two points but that was as close as Lowry got.
Lowry hosted Wooster on Tuesday and results were not available at press time.
Lowry is back home Friday to play Sparks at 6 p.m.
