The Battle Mountain High School volleyball team was back on its home floor this past Friday to host White Pine of the Southern 2A.
The Lady Longhorns won a back-and-forth first set 27-25 and after dropping the second set 25-22, they closed out the match winning 25-11 and 25-22.
A pair of aces by Shea Jones gave Battle Mountain an early lead at 4-3 in the opening set, only to see White Pine go on a 6-1 run to go in front 9-5.
Later in the first set, the Lady Longhorns picked up two kills from Cristina Holley to stay within a point at 13-12.
Battle Mountain jumped back in front at 15-14 after a kill by Brynnlee Freeman and ace by Yezzel Guizar.
After the teams traded points, Lilliana Haney added a kill to put Battle Mountain up 19-18.
The set was tied at 19, 20 and 21, when Battle Mountain had set point at 24-21 after a kill by Freeman and an ace by Guizar.
However, White Pine stormed back with four straight points go in front 25-24.
The Ladycats could close out the set, as the Lady Longhorns scored the final three points, including a set-winning ace.
After dropping a close second set, Battle Mountain dominated the third set and closed out the match with a three-point win.
Battle Mountain is scheduled to host Silver Stage on Sept. 17 and Yerington on Sept. 18.
