WJHS girls basketball team gets season going

After all of the junior high sports were wiped out the last school year, they are back this year and the Winnemucca Junior High School girls basketball team is set and ready to get the action going.

A preliminary schedule, which is subject to change, has the Warriors beginning their season on Thursday, Sept. 9, in Fernley at 3:30 p.m. 

Winnemucca will travel to Carson City the following day for games against Eagle Valley and Carson Middle School at 3:30 p.m. Winnemucca is scheduled to play at Pyramid Lake on Saturday, Sept. 11, at 9 a.m.

After a busy opening weekend, Winnemucca travels back to Carson on Wednesday, Sept. 15, for a 3:30 p.m. tip off. The Warriors head north to McDermitt on Saturday, Sept. 18, with games starting at 9 a.m.

Winnemucca travels to Fallon on Thursday, Sept. 23, for games beginning at 3 p.m. and the Warriors will be on their home floor on Friday, Sept. 24, to play Oasis Academy.

Winnemucca is back home on Saturday, Oct. 2, for games at 9 a.m. and the Warriors travel to Sparks on Oct. 26, to play Dilworth Middle School.

The seventh-grade girls team includes: Tessa Jenkins, Josie Jenkins, Natalia Cassinelli, Hailee Gibson, Ava Swenson, Hazen Root, Briana Sanchez, Cynthia Ramirez, Adalyn Entwistle, Echo Keele, Aquila Jim, Maribell Urtiz, Helena Monreal (player/manager) and Clarissa Morence (player/manager).

The eight-grade team includes: Ludivynne Canales, Crystall Krieger, Denise Carrillo (player/manager), Allie Wilkins, Isabel Upton, Kalli Raabe, Audry Mason, Maura Braatz, Macy Whitted, Lexi Hernandez, Mariah Ramos, Tessa Rodriguez, Maite Avalos and Maria Palacios Juarez.
