Sherfield voted Player of the Year; Pack picked 3rd

Nevada guard Grant Sherfield was voted the Mountain West Preseason Player of the Year, and to the five-player Preseason All-Mountain West Team, as the conference announced its list of honors ahead of the start of 2021-22 Media Days.

Nevada was tabbed to finish third in the conference, receiving two first-place votes and a total of 189 points. All voting was done by media.

Colorado State was the top pick, collecting 11 first-place votes and 207 points, followed by San Diego State with seven first-place votes and 201 points.

Boise State (147 points) was fourth, followed by Utah State (127), Fresno State (119), UNLV (109), New Mexico and Wyoming (79 each), San José State (40), and Air Force (23).

Sherfield, entering his junior season, is the second Wolf Pack player to earn the Mountain West’s top preseason honor, joining Caleb Martin (2018-19). He also becomes the sixth member of the Wolf Pack to earn a spot on the conference’s preseason team, joining Deonte Burton (2012-13, 2013-14), Cameron Oliver (2016-17), Jordan Caroline (2017-18, 2018-19), Caleb Martin (2018-19), and Cody Martin (2018-19).

Last season, Sherfield was named Mountain West Newcomer of the Year and to the All-Mountain West First Team.

Joining Sherfield on the Preseason All-Mountain West Team were Colorado State’s David Roddy and Isaiah Stevens, Fresno State’s Orlando Robinson, and UNLV’s Bryce Hamilton.



Men’s basketball adds Nov. 1 exhibition

The Wolf Pack will host Dominican University on Nov. 1, for a 7 p.m. tip at Lawlor Events Center.

Admission to the event will be free, with open seating. Only the lower and upper bowls will be available to fans; court-level seating will be closed for the exhibition. Per state of Nevada and university mandate, all attendees must wear a mask indoors, regardless of vaccination status.

Fans may enter Lawlor through Gate 22, by the West Stadium Parking Complex. Doors will open at 6 p.m.

Parking for the exhibition will be available on floors 3-6 of the West Stadium Parking Complex, with ADA parking available on levels 1-2. Fans are asked to enter the complex through the 16th Street entrance. For patrons using ADA parking, a drop off will be set up on the first floor. Additional parking will be available in the surface lots north of Lawlor Events Center.



Women’s basketball single-game tickets on sale

Single-game tickets and group tickets for the women’s basketball season are on sale.

General admission tickets for the upcoming season are $5. In addition, group tickets for groups of 10 or more are also on sale, with tickets starting at just $3. For information on group tickets, call (775) 348-PACK.

New season tickets are still available for purchase, starting at $65 for general admission and $37.50 for family four packs which include two youth tickets and two adult tickets.

Head coach Amanda Levens enters her fifth year with the Pack, returning 14 players and welcoming five newcomers.

The Pack hosts an exhibition game against Fresno Pacific on Oct. 31 at 1 p.m. Nevada opens up the regular season on Nov. 10 with a home game against Saint Mary’s.
