The Lowry High School volleyball team did its best to turn the standings upside down atop the Northern 3A this past weekend.
The Lady Bucks were in Lyon County to take on Fernley and Dayton, who were first and second in the standings and already had beaten the Lady Bucks this year in Winnemucca.
After losing to Dayton in three sets in Winnemucca, Lowry bounced back to upset the Dust Devils in five sets this past Friday night. Dayton entered the match with just two league losses.
Lowry looked to take down the top seed in the Northern 3A East on Saturday and almost did in a back-and-forth battle.
The Lady Bucks won the opening set 25-22, but awoke the Vaqueros who blasted through sets two and three, winning 25-9 and 25-10.
Lowry regrouped and won set four 25-22, but Fernley held onto avoid the upset and won the fifth set 15-12.
With the split, Lowry is in the third and final playoff spot at 4-4 in the Northern 3A East.
Fernley leads the league at 7-2 and Dayton is second at 6-3.
Elko and Spring Creek are tied for fourth at 3-5 and Churchill County is sixth at 2-6.
Truckee leads the Northern 3A West at 9-0, followed by Wooster (8-1) and South Tahoe has clinched the No. 3 seed
Lowry hosted Spring Creek on Tuesday and results were not available at press time.
Lowry finishes the regular season at Elko on Thursday at 6 p.m.
