Lowry splits with Spring Creek, Elko

The Lowry High School boys soccer team kept its playoff chances alive with a split of two matches against Elko County schools last week.

Lowry easily knocked off Spring Creek 5-1 on Tuesday, Oct. 5, in Winnemucca, but suffered a 7-2 loss at Elko on Saturday afternoon and are now 4-10 overall and 4-1 in the Northern 3A East.

The 4-1 record is good for second in the league, with Elko leading at 5-0 and Fernley is third at 2-2-1.

The top three teams from the Northern 3A advance to the regional tournament in Winnemucca from Nov. 4-6.

Against Spring Creek, Andrew Bravo notched two goals in the first 16 minutes of the match.

His first goal came in the third minute and the second in the 14th minute, as he put back a shot that bounced off the hands of the Elko goalie.

Johan Silva gave Lowry a 3-0 lead in the 21st minute off a corner kick and that would be the margin at halftime.

Spring Creek’s Nathan Morrill cut the Lowry lead to 3-1 in the 50th minute, but Lowry bounced back in the 66th minute, as Jesus Guizar took a cross and hit the shot for a 4-1 advantage. Silva added his second goal of the day in the 78th minute for the 5-1 lead.
