The Lowry High School girls golf team closed out its regular season last week with tournaments in Fernley and Genoa Lakes.
The Lady Bucks placed second in Fernley and third in South Tahoe’s Genoa Lakes tournament and earned a berth into the state championships that are taking place in Mesquite next week.
Douglas, who moved from the Northern 5A to the 3A this year, won the Northern 3A regional championship, followed by Lowry and Truckee.
Lowry carded a season-best 368 on Tuesday, Oct. 5, in Fernley, only bested by Douglas’ 351. Truckee was fourth with a score of 404.
Truckee’s Ryan Flynn, who was named the Northern 3A MVP for this fall, was the low medalist at 67. Douglas’ Mackenzie Willis was second at 83. Lowry’s Bailey Hayes was third with a round of 84, her best on the year. Freshman teammate Katie Cassinelli also shot 84, but was fourth on the scorecard tiebreaker.
Lowry sophomore Piper Nichols shot a 98 and Presley Hayes (102) and Jordyn Medicine Cloud (117) rounded out the scores.

at Genoa Lakes
On Wednesday, Oct. 6, the Northern 3A moved to Genoa Lakes Golf Course, with Douglas winning with a score of 357. Truckee was second at 398 and Lowry was third with a 429.
Flynn closed out her MVP season with a 77 and Douglas’ Giana Zinke (79) and Churchill County’s Laine Reed (85) were second and third, respectively.
Bailey Hayes led the Lady Bucks with a 92, followed by Cassinelli at 98, Nichols (101) and Medicine Cloud (138).
Cassinelli, Bailey Hayes and Nichols were named to the Northern 3A first team, along with Flynn from Truckee and Douglas’ Mackenzie Willis, Abby Miller and Giana Zinke.
Cassinelli was second in the point standings, Hayes fourth and Nichols sixth.
Churchill County’s Lainee Reed, Elko’s Julianna Lozano-Jimenez, Fernley’s Nadia Velasquez and Douglas’ Abby Detsch and Logan Karwoski were named to the Northern 3A second team.
The NIAA 3A State Championships take place in Mesquite on Monday, Oct. 18 and Tuesday, Oct. 19. The first 18 holes will be played at Oasis Canyon and the final 28 will be played on The Palms Course.
The Southern 3A Regional Championships took place on Oct. 11-12 and results were not available at press time.
