The Battle Mountain High School boys cross country was in Winnemucca this past Friday for the Lowry Invitational.
After a steady rain for much of the morning, skies cleared, giving the cross country runners excellent conditions to run into.
Battle Mountain sophomore Spencer Thompson was fifth in the junior varsity boys race with a time of 20 minutes, 16 seconds. Teammate Julian Sosa was 17th at 24:12.
Spring Creek’s Hayden Mitchell won the JV race at 19:28 and teammate Calden Cunningham was the runner-up in a time of 19:33. Wells’ Gonzalo Roque (19:40) was third and Spring Creek’s Joseph Terras was fifth in a time of 20:12.
Yerington’s Kutoven Stevens ran away with the boys varsity race. The senior set a course record at 15:29, beating the previous best of Elko’s Alex Klekas back in 2019.
Spring Creek won the team title with 22 points, followed by Lowry (53) and Elko (58).
Battle Mountain senior Alexander Colver was 33rd in a time of 24:21 and fellow senior teammate David Traweek was 34th at 24:26.
In the varsity girls race, Lowry senior Jovi Kuskie set a personal best on the 3.1-mile course, easily outdistancing the rest of the field. Kuskie ran the course in a time of 19 minutes, 31 seconds, nearly two minutes ahead of Spring Creek’s Kiely Munson at 21:17. Spring Creek’s Brianna Perchetti was second with a time of 21:31 and Churchill County’s Savanna Regli was third at 21:41.
Spring Creek won the team title with 19 points and Elko was second at 36.
Battle Mountain travels to Wells on Friday for the Wells Invitational.
