Jose Antonio Castellanos-Martinez was arrested on October 1, 2021 by the Winnemucca Police Department on Category A felony sexual assault against a child under 14 (NRS 200.366.3c) following an active investigation with a $501,140 bail amount.
Castellanos-Martinez was also charged with misdemeanor resisting a public officer.
WPD reported that on September 25, 2021, a report was received of a sexual assault of a child, approximately three years old. Due to the case nature and sensitivity, information regarding the incident was not immediately released by law enforcement in order to protect case integrity.
“Personnel from the WPD and surrounding law enforcement agencies have been working around the clock for the past six days to bring the perpetrator to justice,” said WPD officials in a Facebook post Friday. “Multiple persons of interest were identified and through the investigative process have been eliminated.”
The original incident was reported at approximately 11:23 p.m. near Melarkey Street and the Humboldt River in Winnemucca on September 25.
“This is still a very active and constantly evolving investigation,” said WPD officials. “The WPD would like to thank the public for your understanding and thank the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office, and the Nevada Department of Public Safety for their overwhelming support and assistance during this investigation.”
