Battle Mountain boys cross country team runs at Incline, Reed

The Battle Mountain High School boys cross country team was in action twice this past week.

Battle Mountain was in Incline on Wednesday, Sept. 28, for the Highlander Invitational and placed third with 59 points. Incline won the team title with 16 points and North Valleys was second at 22.

Sophomore Spencer Thompson placed the Longhorns with a 10th-place finish in a time of 22:07.78.

Fellow sophomore, Julian Sosa was 19th at 25:10.58 and seniors David Traweek (26:19.05) and Alexander Colver (26:34.65) rounded out the finishes for Battle Mountain.

Incline’s Brendan Pietzke (17:41.11) and Noah McMahan (17:43.55) were first and second respectively.



Battle Mountain runs at Reed Invitational

Battle Mountain was back on the road this past Friday for the Reed Invitational in Sparks. 

Thompson placed 19th in the boys JV race with a time of 22:39. Sosa placed 37th in a time of 24:58. 

Reno’s Carson Franklin won the race at 19:23 and Bishop Manogue won the team title with 36 points.

In the varsity race, Colver had a time of 26:52 and Traweek finished at 27:53.

Yerington’s Kutoven Stevens won the boys race with a time of 16:33 and Damonte Ranch’s Jackson Elliott was second at 17:39.

Reed won the team championship with 31 points and were followed by Spanish Springs (56) and Damonte Ranch (96). Lowry was fourth with 127 points.

Battle Mountain travels to Winnemucca on Friday for the Lowry Invitational at Winnemucca Municipal Golf Course at 3 p.m.
