The JV and varsity Pershing County Mustang football teams traveled to Lyon County on Friday, Sept. 24.
The varsity team lost 36-3 to the Yerington Lions. Pershing County’s three points came from a first-quarter field goal by Diego Gonzalez.
According to PCHS coach Mike Brooks, Izayuh McGlothin had a good game as a freshman playing varsity. Junior running back Noel Zaldivar also played well, he added.
Nonetheless, the Mustangs trailed 15-3 at the half and it didn’t get any better for Pershing County.
“We were excited to get to the game, but we have a lot to clean up,” said Brooks. “Yerington was the better team that day.”
The Pershing County JV squad had better luck, adding a win to their record by beating Yerington JV 28-7.
Mustang JV coach Jared Jensen says he’s proud of the efforts of the whole team.
“Offensively, we were spearheaded by great performances all around,” he said. “Travis Donaldson had a great night. Luis Sanchez and Tyrn Sam ran the ball well.”
Conner Fecht caught a 35-yard touchdown strike to cap off the game.
Defensively, Danny Jimenez, Wyatt Hughes, Jacob Burke and Efrain Aceves stood out.
On Friday, Oct. 1, the Pershing County JV opens the homecoming football games. They play Lowry at 4:30 p.m. The varsity competes against North Tahoe at 7 p.m.
