Buckaroo boys pick up first win of the season

After spending the first half of the season shorthanded and playing a tough crossover schedule against the Northern 3A West, the Lowry High School boys soccer team collected its first win of the season on Tuesday, Sept. 21, in Winnemucca with a 6-0 victory over Churchill County.

Lowry is now 1-9 overall and 1-0 in the Northern 3A East.

The Buckaroos dominated play from the start, scoring four times in the first 21 minutes of play.

Three of those goals came from senior Andrew Bravo in the first 11 minutes of the contest.

Bravo opened the scoring with a goal in the second minute of play and picked up the hat trick with goals in the sixth and 11th minute.

Lowry’s final goal of the first half came in the 21st minute, when Jordan Wirthlin collected a shot of the bar of the goal and put back in the net and past the Churchill County goalie.

The Buckaroos’ Jose Avila netted a goal in the 45th minute and sophomore Jesus Guizar closed out the scoring in the 52nd minute.

Lowry is off this weekend and returns to the field on Friday, Oct. 1, at Dayton at 4:45 p.m. The Buckaroos remain in Lyon County and play Fernley on Saturday, Oct. 2, at 11:45 p.m.

Lowry is back home on Tuesday, Oct. 5, to play Spring Creek at 3:45 p.m.
