The Pershing County High School varsity and JV football teams closed the award night festivities last Tuesday at the high school auditorium.
JV football coaches Buzz Brooks and Jared Jensen called the JV players to the stage.
The coaches named Travis Donaldson the offensive MVP of the year. The defensive MVP award went to Jacob Burke. Wyatt Hughes received the Robbie Weagant UnderClassman Lineman of the Year.
“Wyatt came rain or shine from center, to guard to tackle and wherever else we asked him to go,” said Buzz Brooks.
Next, head coach Mike Brooks and Logan Murphy introduced the varsity players. Several athletes won All-Conference recognition. Ashton Nolf and Devin Moura received Honorable Mentions as defensive backs.
Jose Jimenez (offensive line), Noel Zaldivar (wide receiver) and Devin Moura (quarterback) also received Honorable Mentions.
Freshman Izayuh Mcglothin and Mariano Gomez made the 2nd team.
The 2A recognized Mcglothin for his efforts as defensive back. Gomez excelled as a running back.
First team honors went to Diego Gonzalez (kicking specialist) and Wyatt Diaz (offensive lineman and linebacker).
Gonzalez also won the Cody Gibson Memorial special teams’ player of the year.
