The PCHS Mustang wrestling team lost an entire season due to Covid.

To say they’re excited to begin a new one would be an understatement.

“We haven’t had a practice yet so we aren’t sure how many kids we will have; probably about 10,” said coach Mike Brooks.

He held the first practice on Monday, Nov. 15.

Pershing County is scheduled to travel to Fallon for the Earl Wilkins Invitational at Churchill County High School on Dec. 4 for its first meet of the season.

The Mustangs make the short trip to Winnemucca on Dec. 10-11 for the Cody Louk Invitational at the Winnemucca Event Center.

Pershing County hosts its invitational on Dec. 18.

The Mustangs open 2022 at the Sparks Invitational on Jan. 7-8 and make trips to Spring Creek and Fernley later in January.

Pershing County hosts the Northern 2A Regional championships on Feb. 12, 2022, and the state championships will be in southern Nevada on Feb. 18-19.

Fans expect Devin Moura back for another shot at the state championship. Moura competed at state as a freshman and sophomore. Each time he brought home a runner-up medal. As a junior, he lost the chance to compete due to the pandemic. He returns as a senior this year.

Covid impacts the lives of high school athletes.

The basketball players and wrestlers will be tested weekly and must be negative to participate.

This introduces uncertainty but, no matter the sport, the Mustangs love to overcome obstacles.
