On November 2, 2021 Blaine Smith passed away of natural causes while hunting near Austin, Nevada.
Blaine was born on August 31, 1953 to Nate and Geraldine Smith in Preston, Idaho.
The youngest of five children, he spent his youth in the farming communities of Thatcher and Grace, Idaho.
In 1975 he would move to Silver State Valley, Davey Town, Nevada to help his dad break ground on a large potato farm.
During that time, they opened a packing plant under the name of Gem State Potatoes distributing the spuds throughout the region.
Blaine met the love of his life, Nina Brinkerhoff, in this slice of rural Nevada. They were married November 5, 1977. Blaine and Nina started their future together working with her family then soonmoving to Orovada, Nevada.
After several years they began to farm on their own; while starting a family and raising their four boys. Blaine gained a reputation as being an excellent farmer and found much success over the ensuing 35 years in a career that was truly his passion.
Over the years Blaine volunteered to help grow the community he had come to love by serving on many boards in Orovada and coaching the Orovada Eagles rural basketball team.
Blaine enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf (sort of) and everything else that would bring him together with his family and friends.
In 2013, Blaine and Nina bought a house in Clio, California, but always kept their home in Orovada.
Blaine began to move away from farming, spending more time on the golf course, traveling with his wife and enjoying his five grandchildren.
Blaine was preceded in death by his Father Nate and Mother Geraldine.
Blaine is survived by his wife of 44 years, Nina, his four sons, Jason (Olivia) Smith of Chattanooga Tennessee, Travis Smith of Reno Nevada, Clay (Kelli) Smith of Orovada Nevada and Brandon (Danielle) Smith of Reno Nevada, his five grandchildren, Lander, Walker, Brynley, Theodore and Charley Smith.
He is also survived by his step-mother, three sisters, one brother and numerous nephews and nieces.
His farming guidance and life advice will be truly missed as much as his big mischievous smile, epic puns, and teasing of his grandchildren.
