Midnight Madness

It’s an annual tradition. Every year the PCHS girls basketball players bring food and drinks to the high school gym while the stars twinkle in the sky.

“We play some fun games and scrimmage and go home,” said Coach Lee Houston about last Saturday’s long-awaited Midnight Madness event.  “Everyone was excited to get back in the gym for some basketball. It feels like it’s been forever because last season was cancelled due to Covid.”

Seventeen girls have signed up to play, according to the coach. Among them are four seniors – Kylee Fuller, Presley Burrows, Bela Rosas and Aledda Sam. Fuller, a long-distance runner, is fresh from the soccer field. Burrows, Rosas and Sam excelled at volleyball.

“These girls all have great leadership qualities and will lead by example,” said Houston. “It looks like we will have a talented squad. We have a lot of speed so we will definitely play our style of Mustang basketball. We’re excited to be playing in front of our home crowd again.”

The varsity players have a preseason tournament in Hawthorne Dec. 2-4.

The Mustangs travel to Lake Tahoe on Dec. 9-11 for the Whittell Tournament.

The Mustangs close out the month of December with games at Virginia City on Dec, 17 and Dayton on Dec. 28, both non-league games.

The Northern 2A season opens in Yerington on Jan. 7 and the Mustangs will be on their ho,e floor on Jan. 8 to play Silver Stage,

The JV plays before a basketball-hungry home crowd Dec. 3-4.
