August Peters recently changed his plea as a defendant in a May 2020 incident which resulted in the death of Doug Higginbotham at the Model T RV Park in Winnemucca.
Peters was originally charged with open murder, he pleaded not guilty to two felony charges in June 2020, including a category A felony open murder with use of a deadly weapon and category D felony possession of a controlled substance for sale.
At a recent hearing, Peters, age 23, pleaded guilty to a category B felony voluntary manslaughter for which he faces one to ten years in prison, a maximum $10,000 fine and eligibility for probation.
Peters is set to be sentenced on Dec. 14, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. in Sixth Judicial District Court.
In the original report, officials reported that Higginbotham and Peters engaged in a physical altercation prior to Higginbotham being shot three times.
