Battle Mountain NNA Swim Team preps for state championships

The Battle Mountain NNA Swim Team was in Carson City from Oct. 22-24 for the 2021 King of the Hill Challenge at the Carson City Aquatic Center.

The state finals will be held Nov. 11-5 in Carson City, as Zane Hall, Daxon Bakker, Saige Bakker and Nevaeh Serna have qualified in at least one event.

At the King of the Hill Challenge, Daxon Bakker was fifth in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 1 minute, 36.38 seconds and fifth in the 50-yard breaststroke at 1:06.71. 

Bakker added a sixth-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle and he placed third in both the 50-yard backstroke (49.00) and 25-yard breaststroke at 27.28.

Hall placed 16th in the 100-yard butterfly at 1:07.07, taking nearly a second off his previous best time. He was 16th in the 100-yard backstroke at 1:06.98, 18th in the 200-yard individual medley (2:28.07); 21st in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:17.46) and 33rd in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.76.

In addition, Hall finished 17th in the 100-yard freestyle at 56.82 and he was 36th in the 50-yard freestyle at 25.74.

Serna had a handful of first-place finishes, including the 200-yard freestyle at 2:41.11, a 1.77-second improvement. She took off 1.58 second sin the 100-yard backstroke to win with a time of 1:22.08 and she was at the top in the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 32.95. 

She improved by 1.41 seconds to win the 100-yard individual medley with a time of 1:24.02 and she won the 100-yard freestyle at 1:14.22. Serna was the runner-up in the 50-yard backstroke (38.65) and 50-yard butterfly (41.18) and she placed third in the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 46.60.
