On Wednesday, October 20, 2021, Karol Kay DeBord, went home to be with the Lord.
She was born November 12, 1947, to Jimmie Lawanda Harris and Max Hammon in Albany, California.
Kay came to Winnemucca over 45 years ago as a young mother raising two daughters.
Her passion for community service included co-founding and organizing the Special Olympics here in Winnemucca as well as guaranteeing grant funding and a local community bus for the H.A.R.T Bus program.
On May 6, 1995, she married her beloved husband, Daniel DeBord.
They shared an amazing 26 years together. Kay had a passion for family. Her grandkids were always her first priority.
Kay was our family’s brightest star, and she will be greatly missed. She was an originating member of Winnemucca Christian Fellowship and remained as such until her passing.
Kay is survived by her husband, Daniel DeBord. Daughters Jesica Rookstool and Sarah (Joel) Welsh. Grandchildren Michelle Rookstool, Ashley Rookstool, Jimmy Rookstool, Shai Welsh and Catherine Welsh. Brother Randy Hammon and many cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents Max and Jimmie and her infant daughter Jennifer.
A service will be held on Friday October 29, 2021, at 1:00pm at Winnemucca Christian Fellowship. A celebration of life and luncheon will follow the service.
