Union Township Justice Court

Items in the Court Docket are compiled from public records contained in the Union Township Justice Court and the Sixth Judicial District Court. The Humboldt Sun reports all felony hearings, misdemeanor convictions and dismissals for which the court releases information. When requested by the individual, the Sun will post the person’s mug shot with their court disposition.

May 4

John Leslie Stransberry Jr. was given an agreement to reset the case for misdemeanor passing in no-passing zone. DA Mike Mcdonald amended the citation to reflect rural speed with the fines and fees to remain the same. The defendant was given 30 days to pay. 



Sukhkaran Singh Kandola was given an agreement off the record to continue this matter for misdemeanor basic speed 11 - 20 mph over the limit. DA Mike Mcdonald amended the citation to reflect basic speed 1 - 10 mph over the limit with the fines and fees to remain the same. The defendant was given 30 days to pay. 





Jazmin Rogers-Rodriguez-Vazquez was not present at her hearing. The defendant’s attorney, Rendal Miller, entered a guilty plea to vehicle entering intersection marked stop/yield. The court ruled for the following: Fines $100 + $95 AA for total of $195. The defendant’s cash bail ($1,530) will be applied to the fines and fees with the remaining balance ($1335) will be returned to the person who paid it. The DA’s motion to dismiss charges of resisting public officer and driving without a valid license was granted.



May 5

James Wayne Johnson was given an agreement off the record to rest the case for misdemeanor overtake on left side or masking left turn in prohibited zone. Per DDA Richard Haas this matter is deferred for 90 days. On May 5, a motion and order to dismiss was filed.



James Johnson was given a pre trial for misdemeanor expiration and renewal if registration and no brake lights. Following pre trial, DA Mike Macdonald dismissed the violations on the citation.





Rebecca Corales pleaded guilty to misdemeanor driving on right required. The court ordered a $50 fine + $65 AA for a total of $115. Charges of driving without driver's permit and expiration and renewal of registration were dismissed.



May 11

Katie Morfin failed to appear for her hearing on  misdemeanor two counts of battery. The DA informed the court Morfin complied with the terms of the deferred prosecution agreement and case was dismissed in open court.

May 12

Pawanjot Singh was charged with misdemeanor basic speed violation 11 - 20 over. On February 2, both parties agreed to continue this matter off the record. On May 12 a memo recording from the DA amended the citation to reflect basic speed 1 - 10 over the limit with the fines and fees to remain the same.



Debra South Hughes was charged with misdemeanor basic speed violation 11 - 20 over. On March 10 both parties agreed off the record to reset the case for a review/deferred hearing. On May 12 a motion and order to dismiss was filed.



Juanita Aline Gates was charged with misdemeanor basic speed violation 21 - 30 over limit. On March 9, the DA requested the case be set out for a deferred prosecution. On May 12 a motion and order to dismiss was filed.



Chijioke Sylvester Ene was charged with misdemeanor basic speed violation 1 - 10 over limit. On March 10 both parties agreed to reset the case for a review/deferred hearing. On May 12 a motion and order to dismiss was filed.



Jordan Isiaha Mayden was charged with felony robbery with the use of a deadly weapon. On November 19 this case was continued off the record for 6 months. The defendant and his attorney were not present for the review/deferred hearing on May 12. The DA made a motion to dismiss the case. The court granted the motion and the case was dismissed.





Torin James Cassani was charged with misdemeanor (1) possession of a drug which may be introduced into interstate commerce, (2) driving under the influence - first offense, and (3) possession of drug paraphernalia. The defendant entered a guilty plea. The defendant and his attorney read and signed the dui admonishment and waiver of rights form.The court ordered as follows: sentence to 30 days jail with 28 days stayed for period of 1 year, stayed jail time on the condition he serve 2 days. Credit was given for 2 days time served. Defendant was ordered to pay fine of $400+$125 AA+$60 forensic fee for a total of $585. The DUI School and Victim Impact Panel was ordered to be completed by July 31, 2021. Pursuant to negotiations, the county made a motion to dismiss count 1 and count 3. The court granted the motion and count 1 and 3 were dismissed. Bail bond was exonerated.



Joseph Aaron Garcia was charged with misdemeanor basic feed too fast for conditions (accident). The defendant failed to appear for his review hearing on April 7, 2021. The defendant was ordered to pay citation. Defendant requested to make 2 payments, the first payment is due in 30 days.



Christopher Troy Knight was charged with misdemeanor damage to jail property. It appeared to the court by evidence and testimony presented that the defendant was guilty. The court ruled as follows: 15 days in the Humboldt County Detention Center and he was fined $1000+$140 AA. The court suspended the fines and fees for 1 year on the condition the defendant has no like violations.
