The Battle Mountain High School baseball team saw its season come to an end with a 13-7 semifinal loss to West Wendover in the Northern 2A Regional Championships on Saturday afternoon at Pershing County High School in Lovelock.
The Longhorns reached the semifinals, after beating host Pershing County 15-0 on Friday afternoon. Yerington went on to beat West Wendover 11-0 for the regional title.
In the win over Pershing County, Battle Mountain’s Marcos Jimenez recorded the win for the Longhorns.
He allowed zero hits and zero runs over two innings, striking out six and walking one. Anthony Silva threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen.
Against West Wendover, Battle Mountain scored in each of the first three innings to lead 6-2.
The Longhorns jumped on the board with two runs in the first inning and added a single run in the second to go in front 3-0.
The Wolverines plated two runs in the bottom of the second inning to make the score 3-2, when the Longhorns extended the advantage to 6-2 with three runs in the third inning.
Battle Mountain saw the lead disappear, as West Wendover scored six runs in the fourth inning and did not trail again.
The Wolverines added three runs in the fifth inning and two more insurance runs in the sixth to advance in the tournament.
Battle Mountain pounded out 15 hits, with Jose Guizar going 4-for-4 on the day with an RBI and run scored.
Jimenez added three hits and Jr Vasquez and Anthony Del Rio had a pair of hits. Asher Bundrock, Brock Bullock, Wiatt Kelley and Blake Gutierez each had one hit.
Jimenez, Del Rio and Silva each threw two innings for the Longhorns. Only five of the 13 runs were earned, as Battle Mountain committed seven errors in the contest.
Battle Mountain finished the year at 8-8.
