After shooting some of the lower scores of the year the week before in Fernley, the Northern 3A East boys golfers found tough going on Winnemucca Municipal Golf Course on Tuesday, May 11.
The scores were much higher and there was a new team champion. Spring Creek claimed the top spot for the first time this season, shooting a season-best 364. Fernley, the 3A East league leader, was second at 377 and followed by Elko (387) and Lowry (388). Churchill County (406) and Dayton (439) rounded out the team scores.
Spring Creek’s Kevin Thompson was the low medalist on the day and was the only player to break 80, with his round of 79. Elko’s Kaden Konakis was second at 89 and Fernley’s Isaac O’Neill was third at 91.
Lowry freshman Landon Esquivel and Spring Creek’s Conner Teeter tied for fourth overall at 92.
Esquivel is fourth in the season-long individual standings with 35 points.
Hunter Smith carded a 95 for the Buckaroos, while senior Brett Ferraro shot 99 in his final home meet. Cal Peters had the final kept score for the Buckaroos at 102.
Peters is seventh in the individual standings and Smith is 16th.
Seamus Maloon shot a 107 for Lowry and sophomore Hector Rivera had a 110.
With one tournament left, Fernley leads the 3A East standings with 22 points.
Elko and Spring Creek are tied for second with 17 points apiece and Lowry is fourth with 16 points. Churchill County (8) and Dayton (4) are fifth and sixth, respectively.
The final tournament of the season is scheduled for today (Wednesday) at Ruby View Golf Course in Elko.
