David Richard Cooney, 69, passed away Tuesday April 27, 2021 surrounded by his loved ones. Dave was born February 15, 1952 in Lovelock, NV to William ‘Bill’ and Gloria Cooney.
Dave married Vanette Hyde in 1971.
They had 3 children, Anthony Sean, Jeffery David, and Lindsey Marie. They were later divorced.
Dave started working for Sierra Pacific Power Company in 1974, in Lovelock, NV. He held many positions with the company during his long career.
He moved his family to Reno, NV in 1977. He remained with Sierra Pacific (NV Energy) until he retired in 2009.
Dave later married Lynne Stewart Carlson September 24, 1993. Dave and Lynne moved to Battle Mountain in 1995 for his work and moved back to Reno in 1999.
Dave and Lynne loved to travel to new places and visit with their many friends. Their love was the Oregon Coast especially the area around Depoe Bay.
Dave enjoyed all his bowling and horseshoe leagues he participated in Reno and in Battle Mountain. Camping and fishing had starting to be his main focus after he retired.
He was quite the handyman around the house and was very proud of his garden.
Dave is survived by his children, Anthony ‘Sean’ Cooney (Karin) of Winnemucca, daughter Lindsey Figueroa (Reyes) of Fallon, stepdaughter Annie (Jason) Morris, of Sparks, stepson Chad Carlson (Adina) of Texas. Sister Janet Lufrano of Gardnerville, sister Judy Walker (Murry) of Stagecoach, brother William Cooney (Billy) of Price, Utah.
Dave had 13 grandchildren and his 1st great grandson due in September, as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Gloria Cooney, wife Lynne and son Jeff. A celebration of life will be held for both Dave and Lynne later this summer.
Per Dave’s request, his ashes will be spread along the Oregon Coast.
