The Battle Mountain High School finished up a season sweep of rival Pershing County on Tuesday, May 4, with a 10-1 victory and split a home doubleheader with Silver Stage, winning game one 8-2 and losing the nightcap 8-1.
The Longhorns are now 6-4 in league play and 7-5 overall.
In the win over Pershing County, the game was scoreless heading into the bottom of the fourth inning, when Battle Mountain plated four runs.
The Mustangs got a run back on an RBI base hit by Blake Burrows to score Conner Fecht, but was all the offense for Pershing County,
The Longhorns added five runs in the fifth inning to cruise to the win.
Anthony Del Rio scattered seven hits in the complete-game effort to earn the win. He struck out 14 and walked one.
Marcos Jimenez and Del Rio had two hits apiece, while Sage Holte, Javier Tovar and Anthony Silva had one hit each. Tovar had three RBI, while Holte and Del Rio each drove in a pair of runs. Jose Guizar, Jimenez and Brock Bullock each scored two runs.
The opening game against Silver Stage was a low-scoring affair, until the sixth inning when Battle Mountain broke a 2-2 tie with six runs.
The Longhorns plated single runs in the first and fourth innings to lead 2-0, only to watch as the Nighthawks tied the game in the top of the fifth inning.
Blake Gutierez and Jimenez picked up three hits apiece, as Battle Mountain had 11 for the game. Brock Bullock had two hits and Asher Bundrock, Del Rio and Silva each had one hit.
Silva notched the victory in the complete-game effort on the mound, He allowed two runs on 11 hits and struck out 13, while giving up no walks.
Silver Stage turned the tables on Battle Mountain in the nightcap with the 8-1 win.
Battle Mountain was scheduled to play at the Spring Creek JV on Wednesday. Results were not available at press time. Battle Mountain closes out the regular season on Saturday at Yerington.
The Northern 2A Regional Championships will take place on May 21-22 in Lovelock.
