James Douel Hardin of Lovelock, NV affectionately known as “Doodle” was born on July 11, 1946 in Benton, Arkansas.
James was the ninth child of twelve born to Shirley and Edith Hardin. James worked hard all of his life.
He started at the young age of six, traveling to various places with his father picking fields.
He joined the Navy in 1965 at nineteen years old and served two tours in Vietnam earning a Bronze Star.
He married Sherry Purdue shortly after returning home and they had two children, Tony and April. He drove truck across country most of his life, as well as worked on several ranches. It was on one of those Northern Nevada ranches that he met his wife of almost twenty-five years, Ann Gladu. James loved to fish, tell stories and make people laugh.
He will be dearly missed. James is survived by his wife Ann Hardin; brothers Bobby, Johnny, David and Darel Hardin; sisters Bessie Pointer, and Peggy Angerer; children Tony Hardin, April O’Connell, step-children Corrie Gutierrez and Christy Broadway, along with a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his father Shirley, mother Edith, brothers WD and Dickie Hardin; sisters Barbara Ann Hardin, Gennie Brown and Freda Dooley.
A memorial service will be held on May 14th at 10:00 a.m. at the Northern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery on 14 Veterans Way in Fernley NV.
