Golf was played the way it is meant to be last Thursday, as the Battle Mountain High School boys golf team hosted its lone tournament of the year in 80-degree weather and no wind.
West Wendover featured the two best scores of the day with a 79 and 80 to win the tournament with a team total of 380. The Elko JV was second at 391, followed by Spring Creek JV at 440 and Jackpot (494).
Battle Mountain, Wells and White Pine did not have enough players for a team score.
The Longhorns’ Max Villanueva was fourth in the individual standings with a round of 94.
“Max will probably tell you he could have played better on his home course,” said BMHS coach Jayson Cutler. “It wasn’t a bad day and that’s how golf goes some days.”
Brice Domagala broke 100 for the first time with a 99.
“We know he was capable of doing it,” Cutler said. “He has gotten better and better as the year has gone on. It was a good day for him.”
Battle Mountain travels to Ely on Thursday for White Pine’s tournament.
