Woman arrested after suspicious death

Following a suspicious death in Winnemucca on March 19, deemed to be a homicide, the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office arrested Chandra Catches, age 25, from McDermitt in conjunction with the case. 

The victim in the case was identified as Kevin Hummel, age 57, from Winnemucca. 

“We want to extend our deepest condolences to the Hummel family,” said HCSO Sheriff Mike Allen in a press release. 

Following the initial report of the incident on Lambert Drive near Winnemucca, the sheriff’s office identified Catches as a person of interest in the matter and she was reportedly located and taken into custody within three hours. 

Catches is being held at the Humboldt County Detention Center on multiple charges with a $60,000 bail, including felony possession of a stolen vehicle, felony ex-felon/prohibited person in possession of a firearm, felony grand larceny and a mental health hold.
