BMHS’ Villanueva wins in Elko

The weather this spring hasn’t been the kindness to the Battle Mountain High School girls golf team this spring.

The Lady Longhorns had their tournament postponed on March 11, due to snow, but the Battle Mountain girls received some nice weather on St. Patrick’s Day at Ruby View Golf Course in Elko.

The Lady Longhorns competed with Wells, West Wendover, Elko JV and Spring Creek JV.

Battle Mountain’s Destiny Villanueva was the low medalist on the day, shooting 108. It is the second year in a row that she has won the tournament in Elko.

Teammate Adriana Robles was seventh overall at 124 and Savanah Grant was 12th with a round of 134.

“The Longhorns had a good day,” said BMHS coach Jayson Cutler. “All the ladies improved from the previous tournament. The weather was great. The girls are doing a great job considering the shortened season, limited practice time and matches due to weather issues.”

Battle Mountain will tee it up on Thursday at Spring Creek and be at home on Monday, March 29, to make up the postponed tournament.
