Obituary: Katheryn Hoxsey

Katheryn Hoxsey; devoted sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and great, great grandmother passed peacefully March 2, 2021.

Katheryn, affectionately known as, “Nonnie” by her loving family, was born in Salt Lake City Utah October 7, 1919 where she attended Catholic School.

Following graduation from High School, Katheryn moved to Elko where she met William Hoxsey.

“Bill and Kath” were married at St. Gaul Church in Garnerville in 1940. They raised a family and spent the remainder of their lives in Winnemucca.

Most can only hope to be all they were supposed to be when the angels sing.

Our Nonnie was more than she was supposed to be. In 2009, Katheryn was awarded the highest honor of “Outstanding Volunteer of the Year” from the Nevada Association of Hospitals for her 20,000 hours of volunteer service.

A charter member of the Hospital Auxiliary since 1968, Katheryn continued to receive recognition for her loving, kind and giving spirit. Nonnie did not give of herself for recognition, she gave endlessly from a spirit of love and kindness.

Still, her resolute giving was recognized. Awards and honors include:

• Hospital Auxiliary, (Poke and Peek shop), Honorary Life Member, 1979

• 1986 Nevada State Convention, Auxilian of the Year

•  1990 Jefferson Award

• Certificate of Commendation from Harry Reid, John Ensgign, Dean Heller, and National Hospital Association President Bill M. Welch

We will miss Nonnie’s home-made pies and infamous motorhome trips that if captured on film, could outgross National Lampoon’s Vacation movies. Nonnie will forever be in our hearts to provide a constant source of love, compassion, and understanding of what it means to be family.

Thank you Nonnie for a life well lived, and lessons well learned by us all. We love you.

The family will have a private service”
