Battle Mountain wins once during busy week

The Battle Mountain High School volleyball team was busy last week, with three matches on the schedule slate.

The Lady Longhorns were in Lovelock on Tuesday, March 9, and came away with an exciting five set win — 24-26, 25-19, 10-25, 25-16 and 15-8.

Addi Slaybaugh collected 10 of Battle Mountain’s 25 kills on the night, as Brynnlee Freeman and Anahi Lopez each added six of their own. Lolly Argueta had two kills and Marena Fuller one.

Battle Mountain saw improvement of the service line, with fewer errors than it had in the season-opener against West Wendover. The Lady Longhorns finished with 19 aces, compared to 12 service errors.

Freeman had seven aces on the night, while Shea Jones, Kathy Lopez, Aylea Ramos and Fuller each had two. Lopez and Argueta each had one ace.

Fuller added a team-high 19 assists to go with four digs. Lopez added a team-high five digs, while Jones and Slaybaugh each had four. 



Silver Stage rallies to win in four sets

Battle Mountain was back on the road on Friday night to take on Silver Stage in Silver Springs. 

The Lady Longhorns won the first set 25-23 and the second set 25-18 to lead 2-1. The Nighthawks claimed the second set at 25-13.

The final two sets went beyond regulation, with Silver Stage narrowly pulling out the victory in both. The Nighthawks won the fourth set 27-25 and the fifth and deciding set 16-14.   

Slaybaugh reached double figures in kills for the second straight night with 11, while Christina Holley added nine. Freeman collected five kills and Ramos and Argueta each had three.

Jones and Fuller each had three aces to the lead the Lady Longhorns, while Fuller had 29 assists. Lopez had a team-high seven digs, Jones added five and Ashlynn Newkirk, Kathy Lopez and Fuller each had three.

fall to Lions

Battle Mountain returned home on Saturday to face Yerington and lost 25-16, 25-18 and 25-13 to the Lions to even its season record at 2-2.

Freeman, Ramos, Slaybaugh and Argueta each had three kills for the Lady Longhorns. Fuller had 10 assists and Holley and Slaybaugh added two blocks apiece.

Battle Mountain is scheduled to travel to Wells on Thursday and host Coral Academy on Saturday and Wells on Tuesday, March 23.
